Part 4: Bahon mein chale aao!

Henna explains to all that she met Hussain on the first day of college – Monday. ‘Hussain meri art class mein hai.’ smiles Henna looking at Hussain. ‘oohhhhh’ all three say together noticing the constant eye-locking going on between Hussain and Henna. ‘haan main iski art class mein hoon, tum sab dekhna chahoge meri pehli painting?’ Hussain continues. ‘Sure, sure…’ all agree with great interest.

‘Nahiiii, Hussain tum nahi dikha sakteeee’ objects Henna. ‘Dikha sakta hoon’ Hussain says taking out an art pad from his bag. Henna tries snatching it off him. ‘ohho, dikhane doh na!’ Hussain says tauntingly.

He pulls out a tedhi medhi funny looking drawing that he did off Henna. The class on Monday entailed students drawing their partners to the best of their ability. Being the first day and not being so good at drawing Hussain had just messed around making Henna laugh and enjoy his company.

All burst into laughter looking at the drawing as they pass it around, Henna laughs too shaking her head. ‘You know Hussain, acha hua tum mujhe abhi mil gaye, agla lesson art hi hai.’ Henna points out. ‘I know, issliye toh aaya tha, tumhe personally escort karne.’ He smiles pleasantly. The buzzer soon sounds.

Amrit lets out a big groan, ‘itna toh enjoy kar rahe teh! Yeh teachers bhi na students ko khush nahi dekh sakte!’ she says crossly. Verni calms her down. ‘Agle lesson mein bhi hum enjoy karenge na Amu, cheer up now.’ All get up slowly and unwillingly. Hussain helps all up like a true gentleman. ‘Oye, mujhe bhi haath doh na!’ Henna calls out.

‘Tumhe toh koi hero ki aake uttayega… mallika-e-nakre’ Hussain teases. Henna looks at hussain shocked. ‘bohat bolne lag gaye ho.’ All thoroughly enjoyed Hussain’s company and are really pleased to have met him. Everyone heads off to their next class leaving Henna and Hussain.

Anku and Eks are glued to the window watching Hussain. ‘Uff why is he helping them up? Dekh dekh kitna chipak rahi hain.’ Anku points out imaginatively. Eks agrees. Saara taps them ‘tum dono ka toh dil kisi bhi handsome pe aa jaata hai, chalo na ab’ Neither Eks nor Anku move. ‘Eh Saara… chalo na. Donny chala gaya hai kab ka!’ Eijaz calls her over and they walk off together suspiciously.

‘I’m not talking to you Hussain.’ says Henna showing pretence anger. ‘kyun baba?’ Hussain enquires worriedly. ‘Acha, I’m sorry for saying too much. Tum chaho toh punishment deh sakti ho.’ He tries winning her over. ‘Pakka deh sakti hoon?’ smirks Henna. ‘Haan… pakka’ nods Hussain.

Henna puts her bag around Hussain’s neck and makes him carry it to their next class. Hussain smiles and happily carries it whilst walking with Henna to their art class. Eks and Anku are totally burnt out by jealousy. They mutter to themselves and turn away from the window. ‘Arre sab chale gaye!’ Eks says shocked. They rush to their next class.

Meanwhilst the fuming and very frustrated Donny COMB has been stopped in the corridor by his first period teacher – Mrs Lovely.

* Background score starts: Oye oye lovely Ji! ‘Bahon mein chale aao’…(the song continues) …*

‘Donny mithuuu, subah tu class vich aaya kyon nahi?’ she enquires battering her long eyelashes. ‘College late aaya tha ma’am’ Donny answers uninterestedly. ‘Late aaya si teh fir vi aa jaana si na second period layi’ she persists and pulls his cheeks. Donny looks at her confused. ‘kyunnn ma’am?’ ‘I the was missing you na Donny. Teri seat the empty empty si na minu changa nahi lageya!!’ she admits shamelessly. Absolutely shocked and embarrassed Donny tries moving away but Mrs. Lovely just moves closer.

Arjun and Gaurav (also referred to as Garu by his friends) are sitting on a wall nearby, watching and laughing at Donny’s expense. Arjun and Gaurav are the most mischievous guys around. They always seem to have some shaitaani on their mind.

Donny is uncomfortably backed up against the wall by Mrs. Lovely, once again trying to save his izzat. ‘Nahi please ma’am, mujhe jaane doh!’ he begs. Arjun and Gaurav laugh even louder. Unable to control himself Gaurav falls of the wall laughing and lands with a loud bang.

*Background score: screeches to a halt*

Arjun looks down at Gaurav and laughs even more. Mrs. Lovely turns to look at what the loud bang was and sees Arjun sitting on the wall.

*Background score: ‘Handsome Hunk!’ (Music fades in again) … hoo… humse sanam kya parda….*

‘OYE..Arjunnn!!’ she says in a delighted but very typical accent. ‘itthe aa na mitthuuu’ Arjun stares back at her, his face is full of horror. Gaurav being the filmy, muscular, hero he is shouts out the line he commonly uses from the movie Karan Arjun, when he and Arjun are in trouble. ‘Bhaag Arjun bhaagggg!!!’

Arjun doesn’t take a moment to think about it. He jumps off the wall and quickly dashes off. Gaurav carries on lying on the floor covering his face with his jacket, trying his best to go unnoticed.

Donny manages to slip away whilst all this happening. ‘Phew’ sighs donny. ‘Din mein pata nahi kitni baar log meri izzat luttne ki khoshish karte hain.. chii!’ Feeling more calm and cool Donny attends the rest of the day at college as per
normal. The thought of Henna with someone else stays stuck at the back of his
mind but he tries not to let it upset him. He is still convinced she is only his.

Is she only his? Or is there more than meets the eye between Hussain and Henna's 'friendship'??

Part 5: Aaj ki shaam, hona hai kya?

A little later on in the evening everyone is busy with various activities. Amrit walks to her room finally having gotten rid of her charmingly annoying brother. As usual they had argued over the dinner table and Amrit being the elder of the two had been scolded and lectured. ‘Boys hote hi kyun hain?’ she mutters angrily to herself shutting her room door.

Amrit sits down at her desk and reaches for her bag. ‘Henna ke notes copy karlun, kal ko waapis bhi dehne hain’ she says as she digs thru her bag to find them. Meanwhilst Henna is lying on her bed listening to music and studying – uninterrupted and lost in her own world is exactly how Henna likes to be when she is relaxing.

Hussain is stood in front of a blank canvas, staring at it with a passion to perfect the drawing he did of Henna. He looks at the odd-looking attempt he had made beforehand in his sketchpad and screws his face up a little. ‘Yeh toh ek dum rubbish hai’ he says displeased. ‘Let’s try once more!’ he sighs as he picks his brush up and places it gently onto the canvas.

Panicking Amrit questions herself. ‘Notes liye toh teh na Henna se?’ she slaps her head gently. ‘Ofcourse liye teh… phir gaye kahan? Frantically she searches all around the house. ‘kahin bag se gir toh nahi gaye.’

Elsewhere an IM window is extremely busy.

‘I knooowwwww’ exclaims Anku.
‘kal ko hum usse dhoondenge ok?’ grins Eks
‘haannn… lehkin kahan kahan dhoonenge?’ anku types back quickly rolling on the floor as usual.

Both Eks and Anku continue their yahoo messenger conversation completely ignoring the stack of textbooks and notes besides their laptops. They have only conversed about Hussain since the afternoon, nothing else seems to interest them.

‘haan toh mazza aaya na aakri class ko bunk karke’ enquires Eijaz as he walks to the cupboard in his room. ‘kyun? Kaunsa kuch khaas kiya tha? Icecream hi toh khaayi thi’ replies Saara playing hard to get. She looks around as she picks up Donny’s phone from the table in the lounge and quickly hurries back to her own room before she gets caught.

‘Meri har baat unique hai toh jo karta hoon khaas hi ho jaata hai’ says Eijaz in his overconfident manner as he takes out a clean shirt and shuts the cupboard door. ‘Acha ji’ Saara tries her best to not be bowled over by his arrogance when in fact it is the very thing that attracts her to him. ‘Ek min… shh mom aayi hain’ whispers Saara on purpose.

She puts her hand over her own phone and dials Garu’s number using Donny’s phone. ‘Okay’ Eijaz answers looking at his phone. ‘Pata nahi kyun roz iski mom hamesha beech mein aa jaati hai’ he drops his phone onto his bed and pulls his shirt off. ‘might as well change that while’ he says to himself.

Gaurav chucks the basketball in his hand at Arjun as he reaches into his pocket to find his phone. Arjun moans ‘hamesha basketball practice ke beech mein hi kyun tujhe phone aata hai?’ ‘Arre ruk na yaar, bas ek min.’ Gaurav tries calming Arjun down. Arjun sighs ‘tere ek min ka pata hai mujhe!’

Finally managing to fish it out of his pocket he looks at the screen. ‘Donny? Iss
waqt?’ he answers quite surprised. ‘Hey what’s up dude?’ Saara clears her throat.. ‘doodh nahi dudess bol rahi hoon’ she clears the misunderstanding. ‘Oh, toh tum ho!’ Garu smiles uncontrollably. ‘main bhi kahun Donny iss waqt kyun phone kar raha hai?’

‘usse chodo, useless logon ke baare mein baat na kiya karo’ she says cutting Gaurav short. ‘Aaj tumhe dekha nahi was really missing you.’ Saara continues making sure her hand is held tightly over her own phone. ‘Lehkin useless logon ke baare mein ek achi story hai jo sab ko batani chahiye…’ Gaurav smilies devilishly as he tells Saara about the Mrs. Lovely incident.

Eijaz pulls on a clean shirt and gets seated on the sofa in his room. He switches the TV on with his phone held firmly against his ear. Saara realizes whilst listening to Gaurav’s fun filled story that Eijaz is still holding the line. ‘Ek min ek min…’ she urges Gaurav to pause. ‘Arre kya hogaya’ Gaurav wonders. He looks over at Arjun whose getting more and more annoyed.

‘Eijoo.. still there?’ Saara enquires as she places her hand over Donny’s phone. ‘hmm’ he replies half watching TV. ‘kal tumse milungi acha.. abhi I need to go.’ Lies Saara. ‘Kyun?’ he pauses ‘...I mean okay theek hai. See you then.’ He replies trying to act cool and calm. Both hang up.

‘Haan kya keh rahe teh Garu?’ she batters her eyelashes going back to him. ‘phir na main wall se gir gaya husste husste’ explains Gaurav. Arjun bounces the ball louder and louder trying to make Gaurav get of the phone quicker. Gaurav turns his back and puts his finger is his ear continuing his conversation.

‘right leg aage aage… nahi left leg thi?’ says verni confused as she practices
dancing. This hobby was a must in Verni’s daily schedule. She just loved dancing. ‘Ohho Verni bas karo na’ says Nits complaining of the background noise that is interrupting her movie. Both Nits and Verni share a hostel room as they are not from the locality.

Verni tries dancing more quietly whilst Nits hugs a cushion and looks on at the TV screen putting popcorn into her mouth now and again. Just then a song happens to come on in the movie. Verni can’t help but make noise. ‘chal utth na Nitz!’ She makes Nits get up and dance too, ‘say shava shava mahiya!’ Both sing along and dance like crazy.

I guess that’s everyone’s evening plans shared. BUT, I know what you’re thinking… what about the star of the show himself right? Well you’ll have to wait a little to see how Donny’s evening pan outs.

Part 6: Saari saari raat jhaagun main…

Donny searches his pockets as he walks up the stairs to his room with his bag slung on his back. ‘pata nahi phone kahan rakh diya hai.’ He mutters to himself. As he enters his room he dumps the bag on his desk n picks up his guitar. Unfortunately the paper that Donny had hoped to return to Amrit the following day falls out of Donny’s bag along with a few pens. It floats to a quiet rest besides Donny’s desk.

Donny however only notices the pens fall. ‘Ah… rehne doh nahi utthata! Inko bhi abhi hi girna tha.’ He sighs irritatedly. Donny shuts his eyes and tries listening to what’s on his mind. This was something Donny did quite often when there was something bothering him alot. He strings a beat, humming to himself gently…he sings a few words… ‘khoya khoya chand rehta hai…’

Just then he hears his mom calling and coming towards his room. ‘Donnnyyy!!!’ she calls. Donny quickly puts down the guitar and turns to look towards the door and sees he had left it open on his way in. ‘Haan mom’ he answers quickly. ‘Beta tu khota khota saandh baita hai kyun gaa raha tha?’ she asks entering.

Donny looks at her confused and a nervously replies, ‘nahi toh mom. Main toh nahi gaa raha tha kuch bhi.’ She looks at donny giving a stern look. ‘Jo bhi kar bas acha acha bola kar samjha?’ she scolds. As she turns and leaves she mutters to herself, ‘pata nahi kaise gaane gaate hain aaj kal ke nau jawan… ab khote mein aur saandh mein kya khoobi hai? Uff… yeh ladka…’

Donny waits for her to leave and sticks his tongue out trying not to laugh. ‘wah wah kya gaana hai mom… hit hoga…’ he mocks quietly. Going back to his guitar he picks it up and carefully places the strap over his head onto his shoulder… ‘This one’s for you henna’ he says winking at himself in the mirror. Looking down at his guitar he strings out the melody again… softly he adds the words to accompany the empty tune.

‘khoya khoya chand rehta hai… asmaan ke paas, khoye khoye hum bhi rehte hain iss jahan ke paas…’

‘khoya khoya chand rehta hai asmaan ke paas, khoye khoye hum bhi rehte hain iss jahan ke paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas’

‘nahi hain mere paaasssss’ Amrit holds her head ‘ab kya karun? Koi mujhe kabhi bhi notes nahi dehga ab…’ she decides to call Henna and tell her.

khoya khoya chand rehta hai asmaan ke paaaaas …khoye khoye hum bhi rehte hain iss jahan ke paas. Khoya khoya kyun rehta hai aaj kal yeh dilll… tum toh meri jaan samajhti ho kya meri mushkil…

‘Mushkil! kyun yeh draw karna itna mushkil hai’ Hussain stares at the canvas completely at wits end. ‘Jitni achi chah raha hoon yeh painting banne uttni hi karab ban rahi hai’ he frowns – his hands and face are covered in more paint than that on the canvas.

Back in Donny’s room he is busy jumping on his bed singing. ‘saari saari raat jhaagun mein chandni ke saath… bas mein nahi hai aaj kal …yeh mere jazbaat… kehdo na.. kehdo na.. kehdo naaaa… pyaar hai… kehdo na.. kehdo na.. kehdo naaaa… pyaar hai’ Donny plays the guitar wholeheartedly.

‘oh wow… I love this song!’ henna turns up the music up louder. As she has ear phones in her ears she doesn’t notice her phone flashing with an incoming call from Amrit.

‘Dekhta hoon sirf tumko… tum Donny ki sexy eyes mein bassi hooooo… chahata hoon sirf tumko… tum toh meri aashiqui hoooo…’ he laughs and sings louder enjoying himself.

Amrit finally gives up trying to call. ‘Kal ko hi bata dungi’ she climbs into bed wondering where the notes went.

Donny walks out onto the balcony, putting the guitar down gently on his way out. He looks up at the sky shining brightly with the lit moon and stars. ‘saari saari raat jhaagun mein chandni ke saath…bas mein nahi hai aaj kal …yeh mere jazbaat…’

He places his hand over his heart feeling a numbness all of a sudden he lowers his gaze as a tear rolls down his cheek remembering Henna sitting with the other guy. ‘kehdo na.. kehdo na.. kehdo naaaa… pyaar hai… kehdo na.. kehdo na.. kehdo naaaa… pyaar hai’

He whispers to himself, ‘Kehdo na pyar hai Henna.’ Slowly he walks back into his room and switches the lights off… there’s total darkness.

Will this darkness and heart ache remain for Donny? Or will a new morning bring a fresh breath of happiness for Donny?

Nice choice of song...

As usual very well written...really liked the way you linked the words in the song DC is singing with Amrit's and Hussain's lines... 'clap' 'clap' 'clap' Something different i guess...not seen in any FF's that i have read till date.
